Where Disk Drill makes sense
Recovery is a different reason to choose a tool
If your files are missing, recovery capability is the relevant requirement. Disk Drill addresses that job; Diskfern does not offer data recovery. A recoverability preview and the license limits matter more than a disk-map preference.
productPRO licensesFree extras can be enough
CleverFiles documents cleanup and duplicate finding as extras. If those are your only needs, inspect what the free edition provides before considering a paid recovery license.
cleanup guideduplicate guideWhere Diskfern differs
Diskfern combines treemap, list and sunburst views with name search, Quick Look, named categories and safety labels. Its Collector gathers potential removals for review. Trash is the default destination, with an explicit permanent option and a preference override.
Duplicate matching is not currently available. Disk Advisor requires macOS 26+ and eligible, enabled Apple Intelligence; AI guidance can be wrong. Review important files before removing them.

The biggest workflow difference
Finding unwanted data versus finding lost data
Diskfern analyzes existing files and stages removal candidates. Disk Drill's recovery purpose runs in the other direction: locating data you want back. Its cleanup extras overlap with Diskfern, but a recovery license should be judged by recovery needs.
productstorage viewsThe details that affect your choice
Duplicate matching changes the shortlist
Disk Drill documents duplicate matching. Diskfern does not currently offer duplicate matching, so choose a tool with that capability when it is your main requirement.
duplicate guideperformance and availabilityOlder documentation is a limitation
The detailed CleverFiles cleanup and duplicate guides reviewed are dated 2021. They establish documented workflows, but not that every control is identical in today's build. Confirm deletion mode and selection behavior in the current app.
